He knows the history , the people and what it means to earn a buck and pay taxes here. I believe he would have the best interest of the people above all else. But that’s just my opinion. He is a very wise man and knows how to budget and run a well oiled machine. He did it for years at the county level. Give him an honest observation while interim city manager. Report Reply 0 replies · active 328 weeks ago 0 Vote up Vote down guest · 328 weeks ago I hope they will figure out a better pay system I paid my electric through their payment center and still got my electric shut off then the city of wellington was rude to me saying I never paid my bill I wish they would have better payment arrangements then they do some people in this town can’t afford the electric especially in the summer and they wont work with you much at all I hate to say it if someone like West star came to wellington city of wellington would close. Tweet this comment Cancel Submit Comment Subscribe to None Replies All new comments by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow â€” By 5-0 vote, the Wellington City Council â€œreluctantlyâ€ accepted the resignation of Wellington City Manager Gus Collins and named City Clerk Shane Shields as the Interim City Manager at a special meeting Thursday night.Gus CollinsCollins submitted his resignation earlier this week (see story here) which will go into effect on June 1, 2014. Shields will then take over on an interim basis while the council searches for a permanent replacement. Shieldsâ€™ monetary compensation will be discussed at a later date.Council member Jan Korte made the motion after two consecutive 30-minute executive sessions to discuss personnel matters at the council chambers.Collins has been the city manager since May 2006 when he replaced Carl Myers, who resigned at the end of 2005. Wellington city went five months without a city manager as then City Clerk Rose Miller and then Director of Public Works Rod Conwell served in interim city manager capacities.Â The council also voted to hold a special meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the council chambers to discuss further an unspecified topic that was discussed in executive session. The council was originally going to have a work session, but Council member John Tracy said the council cannot go into executive session if it is a work session.Council member Kelly Green said she didnâ€™t think the council would need to go in executive session on Tuesday but agreed to keep the option open.
