David runs a construction business in the Bay Area.Among the horses they own is Sparky Ville, a three-year-old son of Candy Ride entered in Saturday’s Grade III Lazaro Barrera Stakes, and the two-year-old filly Go Big Blue Nation, who has been firing bullets and looms an odds-on choice for her debut in today’s third race. Both horses are trained by Jeff Bonde. Go Big Blue Nation, a daughter of 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, is named for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. At Clockers’ Corner this morning, John was proudly sporting the school’s colors, wearing a blue T-shirt with white letters spelling out “Kentucky.”“My dad always took me to the fairs and I got hooked on it,” said John in explaining his introduction to racing. “That’s how it all started. We met Jeff in Pleasanton four years ago and have 12 horses in training with him now.”Bonde, 64, a successful fixture in both Northern and Southern California for decades, has Sparky Ville back in a sprint after the chestnut gelding finished sixth in the 1 1/16-mile Golden Gate Derby on April 27.“This is his distance,” Bonde said of the seven furlong Laz Barrera. “He’s doing well for the race.”Sparky Ville captured the Grade II San Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs Feb. 10 on a wet/fast track, getting up by a nose at 7-1 under Joel Rosario.RAINBOW PICK SIX JACKPOT CARRYOVER REACHES $465,219For the 15th consecutive racing day, there was no single ticket winner in Santa Anita’s popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot yesterday, resulting in a Jackpot carryover into Mother’s Day of $465,219.With $154,251 in “new” money wagered, Saturday’s total Jackpot pool reached $584,251 and although there was no single ticket winner, there were 35 consolation tickets with six winners, each worth $2,355.90.With a nine-race card on tap today, the $100,000 Fran’s Valentine Stakes, slotted as race seven, is the feature. For California-bred or sired fillies and mares at one mile on turf, the Mark Glatt-trained Gypsy Blu is the tepid 5-2 morning line favorite in a field of nine.Approximate post time for race four, the beginning of the Rainbow Six, is 2:31 p.m. PT.LATEST CONTENT FROM XBTV:Bolo works 5 furlongs (Gaines) 5-12-19Paradise Woods works 5 furlongs (Shirreffs) 5-12-19Preakness Memories:   Kent Desormeaux recaps Real Quiet’s win in 1998.Preakness Memories:  Victor Espinoza highlights War Emblem as his favorite Preakness Victory.Preakness Memories:  Gary Stevens talks about Silver Charm in 1997.Bob Baffert talks with Zoe Cadman about his three Kentucky Derby runners following the first Saturday in May. $150,857 38% 26% 1 3 3 47% Michael McCarthy12 3 5 3 $115,546 55% $175,331 4 $119,713 4 2 10% 48% 4 11 1 67% 45% Geovanni Franco32 19% Money Wonlast_img read more
