Warner had complained of an elbow pain but played two more matches for his BPL team Sylhet Sixers but is now set to be back home to attend to his elbow pain.Warner, who is currently serving the suspension period for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, will get an assessment done on his elbow in Melbourne on Tuesday and it is likely that he will get a surgery done on the problematic elbow on the same day.A few days ago, Warner’s suspended partner Steve Smith also underwent an elbow surgery but the former’s injury is not expected to be as serious as Smith’s.For Steve Smith, however, the lay off is expected to be longer. Smith will be wearing an arm brace for six weeks before continuing his rehabilitation. The length of the lay off threatens to disrupt Smith’s preparations for the World Cup in England later this year.Both Warner and Smith carried small niggles into the Bangladesh Premier League and then reporting pain. They returned home within a week of each other.The pair’s 12-month bans for their involvement in the Cape Town ball-tampering incident ends on March 28 and there had been some hope they could return in a one-day series against Pakistan in the UAE.While Smith would be in a race against the clock to play in that series and the early stages of the Indian Premier League, Warner will likely be fit in time to be available for selection.advertisementWarner scored 61 not out, 63 and 19 in his last three innings at the tournament.Australia are expected to play five one-day internationals against Pakistan in the UAE, with the final two matches of that series believed to be after the bans on Smith and Warner have expired.
